A New Dress!

So, I didn’t feel as though I could title this “Outfit of the Day”, firstly because it contains two different(ish) looks (neither of which include mystery belt, be impressed!), and secondly because I only wore this for around half an hour, before deciding it was actually way too windy and cold to get away with it. I was recently sent this lovely summer dress by The Hut to review, and although I really like it, I think I’ll be saving it for really warm days – definitely one to take on holiday!

This dress is from the Brave Soul brand, and is cream with a really pretty pink and blue floral pattern , with the waist-hugging shape I love, and then a floaty A-line skirt, which is very flattering. The top of the back has one of those ruched elasticated panels to adjust for fit, and there’s a nifty little elasticated trim across the top of the chest to make you feel a bit more secure (which you quite need with such a low cut!).

I am a size 10/12, and 5’7, and this is the medium size – I feel I should mention that although it’s a great fit waist-wise, it is very short, short enough that I’d be worried about bending over in it, and there’s not a lot of room up in top, which if you’re a little bit busty, could be a problem. The lack of support in the top is also a bit tricky; I found that shortening the straps helped a little, and luckily I had a bra that fit under the dress, but you might need to be happy going bra-less (okay, I’m going to stop talking about underwear now before it gets embarrassing.) The material itself is reasonably thin, but not thin enough to be see-through, which is pretty much perfect for the summer weather!

DSCF1443For the first look, I brought out the pinks in the dress with my awesome pair of bubblegum suede shoes from Office (about four years ago). I adore these, but I tend to save them for special occasions, because really, pink suede heels are not the most practical things in the world, are they? I matched this with a tiny pink cross-body bag and the bright pink of my Barry M TMLP lipstick (hopefully a review coming soon!)

For the second look, I went a little more casual, switching to basic black Tesco flats, and throwing on a sheer teal shirt to bring out the blues of the dress, co-ordinated with a pale blue oversized clutch. I was a little more comfortable with the shirt on, as I felt it was a little more modest for spring.

Both the shirt and the bag were from Primark sales, £5 and £3 respectively. Got to love a bargain! The owl necklace is so old I can’t remember where it’s from, but I’m sure that you’ve seen these all over the place – you can easily find similar in Accessorize or Claire’s. Also, you can see that my hair is finally losing a bit of its blackness, hurrah for overwashing!

DSCF1415I’ve just thrown this last photo in because I really like it 🙂 I’d like to just quickly thank Boyfriend for taking such excellent photos of me despite the weird light, the beating wind, and my tendency to accidentally pull really unattractive faces as the shutter goes!

But, back to the dress! I really think it’s lovely, and while I might not wear it around my parents(!), I think it’ll settle into my summer wardrobe nicely. It’s available from The Hut here, for just £10.99, which is incredibly reasonable, especially when you consider that they have free UK delivery. It’s worth having a poke around the site, too – it’s a proper treasure trove, and their range of beauty brands is pretty awesome (including Essie, Korres, Tigi – all things I love, but find quite hard to get hold of in the shops).

So what do you think?

Asha x

Time for the disclaimer you see everywhere: This dress was sent for review, but I promise that my review was not influenced by this at all and all opinions are my own.

  1. The dress is lovely, and for that price… But you are right, it is perfect for summer. It is catchy to wear it in spring. I love your first look, tough. Pink shoes make the dress even more interesting 😉

Say hello - it'll make my day!
