Review: Lush Rose Bubble Bar*

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you’ll know that I love rose products, so I was thrilled to be given this cute little Rose bubble bar in my Lush #Oxmeet goody bag – and to be honest with you, I’ve already stocked up on a couple more! Continue reading

Review: Lush Brightside Bubble Bar

P1050271

Hello! I’m finally back! I’m on my Easter break and have time to blog at last – it’s been pretty crazy here. Still, your regular service resumes, and just in time for spring.

This big orange beauty, the Brightside bubble bar, is part of this year’s Easter range at Lush. It’s a returning favourite from last year, and I definitely had to stock up this time round. Scented with The Sun perfume, this is an amazingly orangey bubble bar – it has three different kinds of orange in it, which makes for an incredibly strong, uplifting citrus bath. This is the perfect way to convince yourself that spring is on its way. Even if it’s cold outside, this will make you feel like you’ve just been skipping through a field in the sunshine!

It’s also gorgeous. This is one of the biggest bubble bars that Lush does, of a similar size to the Comforter, and although this year it looks a little smaller, it’s also a lot chunkier, so I think it balances out. I can easily get 10 baths out of a bar this big, with a huge amount of bubbles, so Brightside is well worth the money (£4.50). I love how sunny and cheerful it looks – the one downside to all that orange, of course, being that your bath water looks a little… interesting. But since that’s usually hidden under mounds of bubbles, it’s not too big a problem!

Brightside is an absolute favourite of mine, and I’d recommend it to anyone who likes fun, fresh scents. Did you try it last year? Have you got one this year?

My Final Lush Christmas Haul…

Yes, kids, Christmas at Lush is finally over… With their traditional half-price sale on at Boxing Day, the last few Christmas products have been swept from the shelves, and we’re all left either revelling in our Christmas arrivals or lamenting products never to be seen again.

My stash of Lush products has been seriously augmented in the last week or so, both by Christmas present from lovely people, and by a bit of sneaky ordering of my own…

A Christmassy Lush Bath Haul

It’s the last week of term here in Oxford, and that means plenty of stress for me! It’s the week of the pantomime – this term I’m musical director and also playing the Doctor’s companion (not to mention also playing a ninja fairy and the front of the pantomime dragon tomorrow night because one of the cast can’t make it). It’s also the week of termly reports, meetings with the college Principal, catching up one last time with friends, cramming in the last few library hours, and finally packing.

So, on Saturday night, my first night at home, I’m expecting to be pretty tired. I popped into Lush for a bit of bath planning, and came away with some awesome bits to make a relaxing Christmas bath to kick off my holiday. Continue reading

Lush Halloween!

Firstly, an apology: I’m sorry I’ve been AWOL. The amount of work I have this term hit me pretty hard and despite my best intentions, it’s been the blog that’s taken the brunt of my tiredness, leaving it pretty bare for the last couple of weeks.

Still, I’m resolved to get back to posting at least four times a week, and to start you off, here are some slightly belated mini reviews of the Lush Halloween products! These should still be around in shops, and are certainly online at lush.co.uk for a little while longer.

It’s Christmas! (At Lush, anyway – Lush Christmas Haul)

P1030223

I’m back in Oxford! I arrived back yesterday, unpacked, had tea with Boyfriend, and then was physically dragged into Lush by my friend, who wanted to show me all the Christmas things and had made me promise to avoid spoilers until she could show me! So yesterday afternoon was a bit of a crazy wintery wonderland, and, well, just look at the size of that bag! (I included my iPhone 4 for reference – it’s flipping huge!) Continue reading

Lovely Boyfriend’s Lush Haul

I had some very exciting news about a job over the weekend, which means I’m temporarily back in Oxford!

I’m going to be working with Oxford Fashion Week on the Ashmolean’s Dress Up LiveFriday evening – I’ll be telling you a bit more about that in the next couple of days, but I’m super excited to be involved, and ever so proud of my little blog for helping me to get the job. In the meantime, check out their blog to keep up to date:

Apparently, lovely Boyfriend is also proud of me, and I arrived back at his house, laden with suitcases, to find a little pile of Lush presents as a congratulations – what a sweetie 🙂 So what did he get?

A Rosie gift set, and a big chunk of Miranda soap! The perfect pick of old favourites for someone as rose obsessed as me, and something new that I’ve never tried before.

DSCF2566Miranda is a very pretty soap – a creamy pale green with bright fruity chunks set in it. It also smells incredible, with exotic fruits like kiwi and bergamot, but with something beautifully floral (probably the ylang ylang) that keeps it from smelling too much like a fruit salad, and just a touch of creaminess to make this feel really luxurious. I can’t wait to jump in the shower with this – I think it’ll be perfect to combat that I-don’t-want-to-wake-up morning feeling.

I think Rosie might be my perfect Lush gift set, in as much as I could ever choose one! Inside this pretty box is a selection of beautiful rose products:

  • Rose Queen bath bomb
  • Rose Jam bubbleroon
  • Amandopondo bubble bar
  • Ro’s Argan body conditioner

All of these are well-established favourites of mine (I might have gone a bit mad and ordered half a litre of the limited edition Rose Jam shower gel, I love the scent that much) and they all work wonderfully together to create a rosy paradise in your bathroom!

This is such a thoughtful present – I can see lots of thank-you cake getting made in the next couple of weeks!

What would be your dream Lush present?

Soaking Exhausted!

Remember my resolution to get fit over the summer?

Well, I’m into my third week of the Couch to 5k plan, where you build up over nine weeks from the lowest start (puffing through a 60 second jog) to being able to run 5k/30 minutes at a time. Today, I decided to balance my exercise with a bit of a resistance workout, and had a lovely session with one of the personal trainers at the gym to create a weights programme I can actually do.

And I did this in 32 degree heat. After a very busy five hours at work (Classicist by term, waitress by holiday!).

So, I’ve been sweltering and very active all day, and when I got home, muscles complaining, all I wanted to do was flomp down and relax. And that’s where my soak in the bath came in!

P1010127

I ran a bath rather cooler than usual, and used an array of relaxing lavender-camomile Lush bits and pieces to get me ready for an early night. I slicked on some Catastrophe Cosmetic face mask, used about a quarter of my French Kiss bubble bar for heaps of bubbles, and exfoliated with the Aqua Mirabilis body butter bar. Add to that an excellent book and a cup of Pukka Dreamtime tea, and I was all set!

What do you do to treat yourself after a busy day?
